I'm reading "God is Not Great - How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens. It's on the New York Times Bestseller list. I'm learning a lot about why different cultures today are at war or threatening war. Yes, religion is probably behind it all. I agree with Christopher.
But religion is not spirituality and vice-versa. I now believe in spiritual things found within myself, by my reactions to the real world. Defining God is useless and has caused much more harm than good in my own experience. To me, "Good Orderly Direction" is as good a description of God as anything. With that definition, yes I believe in my own "God". When I tune into that God within, I have a much better outcome.
