My Unconventional Taste re: Celebrities

My inspiration for living comes from actors who either lived in a childhood of poverty, or developed a keen insight into this condition. I am not impressed by famous actors who come from "a family of actors" (such as Drew Barrymore, the Sheens, Jamie Lee Curtis, etc.) I am more impressed by people like Hilary Swank who earned their fame the hard way.

Take for example, Woody Allen. His scripts are legendary, his comic sense of timing, inimitable. His films generally deal with real-life situations which affect us all. I have seen just about every "Woody Allen" film that exists, and I always find some line, some situation, some aspiration and acceptance from his movies. His character is always down and out, whether financially, mentally or socially. It helps me understand myself and my perception of my shortcomings and failings.

Then we have an emerging talent, Shia LeBoeuf. In his television role in "Even Stevens", I was always interested in the character. Now he is even doing Raiders. His acting talent is exceptional! I truly admire his hard work.

I am also looking for film or television celebrities who avoid the main-stream Hollywood establishment. Take for example, Marlon Brando. When winning an Academy Award, he sent a native american to "accept" the award and give a political speech. This makes things interesting.

(I won't even attempt to tackle the subject of the music world....)

Ok, I am unconventional in my taste. Am I alone? I don't think so. Saturday Night Live was unconventional in the beginning. Now it is main-stream. So was Seinfeld, The Daily Show, Laugh-In, and so many other wonderful television programs which gained their popularity from being "different". So, vive-le-difference! (how do you spell that?)

Random Thoughts on Celebrities

My heart belongs to Johnny Depp. He is utterly watchable in any movie and a truly handsome hunk. I can also watch anything that Jack Nicholson stars in. He's a wonderful actor, handsome with a personality to my liking. Then there's actors who I love to watch for their artistry....Philip Seymour Hoffman, Shia LeBoef (how do you spell that?), Chris Cooper, Sean Penn, Edward Norton, and John Cusack.

When I was very young, I would kiss the television set every time Pat Boone was on the screen. I also thought that Superman (George Reeves) was hot. As a teenager I loved John Cleese and still do.

On the female side, Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie are pleasing to watch. I also like Jessica Biel and think she will be a big star. I admire the talents of Helen Mirren and Judy Dench.

The best comic is Larry the Cable Guy, followed by Chris Rock.

The act I would most like to see in Las Vegas is Penn and Teller. I think that Penn Jillette is brilliant, and I admire him for speaking his mind on politics and religion.

Then there are certain celebrities I can't stand...Lewis Black, Julia Roberts, Roseanne Barr, and (ahem!) George Bush!!
